(Embrace The Uncomfortable)
[ Eyes Closed, Listening ]
I did myself a favor today and took a nap after I finished my workday.
Mind you, I’m no nap amateur… I am a regular, Nap Master! However, today’s nap got me to really listen to my heart and my body. What I heard was, “do Yin“.
[ The Experience ]
Normally on Wednesdays I DJ a 3-hour set at a Bouldering Gym, and today I was off. I’ll be DJ’ing this week on Saturday, instead, for a big competition they are holding. So, I took advantage of the timing to visit the teacher I take Yoga Basics with, who also teaches Yin.
It was nice to get to see her style in this format. Honestly, I enjoy her teaching style, I just feel I enjoy a different teacher for my Yin class. And that’s perfectly fine, ya know?
After all, yoga is all about YOU, first and foremost.
Still, I’m glad I went because she had me doing simple poses that were a lil’ more uncomfortable today. I think it’s because my hamstrings were tighter because of Kickboxing yesterday. Nonetheless, I kept my eyes closed the majority of the time (getting better at trusting) and I felt my way into deepened movement, so as to really open the connective tissues in my body.
[ The Takeaway ]
We tend to only do what feels right. I mean, who wouldn’t, ya know? It makes sense to do what feels good. However “good” isn’t always the best thing for our growth.
Today the teacher encouraged us to “listen to [our] heart and body”, and embrace the uncomfortable as part of the process of healing. Though some of the holds and twists were uncomfortable, I embraced them with presence and the fullness of Me. I breathed.
We also focused on our adrenals today, and our teacher reminded us that the best and most efficient way to get the adrenals back in balance is simply through our deep, relaxed breath.
It appears, all roads lead to the breath…
